According to reports, some of the messages were sent just months after Epstein was released from jail in 2009, following a 13-month sentence in Florida for soliciting prostitution from a minor. The case, which resulted in a controversial plea deal, allowed Epstein to avoid more serious federal charges at the time.
Alleged messages following Epstein’s release
Among the communications cited in recent reports is an email said to have been sent in January 2010, while Epstein was under house arrest. In it, Andrew allegedly congratulated Epstein on having his travel restrictions lifted and expressed hope that the matter would reach what he described as a “clean resolution.”
Epstein’s plea agreement had enabled him to serve a reduced sentence despite accusations that he paid underage girls for sexual acts, including at least one victim who was reportedly 14 years old. Years later, in 2019, he was federally charged with sex trafficking minors. He died in custody in August of that year.
